Boundaries in Relationships Workshop

boundary: noun, bound·ary | \ ˈbau̇n-d(ə-)rē \ plural boundaries

Definition of boundary: something that indicates or fixes a limit or extent

A physical boundary provides clarity and recognizes ownership between two different places or objects. A relational boundary does much the same: it draws an invisible line between two different people and holds each person accountable for their own emotions, words and actions. Sometimes this boundary gets “blurry” and causes us to wander onto someone else’s “property” and try to clean things up to our liking. We think we know what is best for them and we often cannot stand to look at their “mess” from our side of of the fence. But in truth, we cannot fix someone else or tidy them up at all and when we try to do so, we often end up frustrating them and neglecting our own (untidy) lives.

This six-hour, highly interactive workshop explores the root of our relational woes including our propensity to want to fix, change and control other people (often referred to as “codependency”). In a small group of no more than 10, we will:

  • Learn the basics of healthy relationships and how to identify your own needs within them.

  • Explore the types of behaviors that keep you stuck in the cycle of trying to fix or change someone.

  • Practice using tools like detachment and setting boundaries to regain control of your thoughts, behaviors and feelings.

  • Examine the importance of self-care for finding long-lasting serenity.

Don’t be surprised if you connect with the others in the group and even have a few laughs.
